One of my most meaningful pieces was created in honor of our beloved Luna. (Pictured on the right with her sister Penny Pasta)

Luna came into our lives rescued from the SPCA in Philadelphia. She had lived many lives before us…multiple litters, several adoptions, and heartbreaking returns for “not liking men.” But the moment she met my partner at the shelter, she gave him a kiss and we knew she had chosen us. She was incredibly strong, loving, and full of courage. She saved our lives several times and rescued our dog Penny Pasta. Luna loved rolling in the grass, smelling wildflowers, and being as close to us as possible. She had the sweetest, most grounded presence reflecting the moon she was named after.

When we welcomed our baby at the start of the pandemic, Luna never left my side. She instantly became his protector, watching over him with so much love and devotion. We lost her to cancer when our son was just six months old. It was a heartbreaking goodbye but we tell him that Luna is his guardian, always with him.

I created this solar dyed piece in her memory, so she can continue to live within our home. It’s a way for our child to know her, and for us to hold onto her spirit. It reminds me of her tenacious heart, her love, and her fierce strength to keep going.
