Care Instructions for Your Naturally Dyed Piece

Natural dye “potions” have worked their magic—now it’s time to care for your piece so it can stay vibrant for many washes to come.

*A Note on Natural Color
Subtle shifts in color over time are part of the beauty of plant-dyed textiles. Each piece continues to tell its story with wear, light, and love.

Natural dyes are more delicate than synthetic ones, but with a little mindfulness, their beauty will gently evolve.

Before First Rinse
Let your piece rest for 1–2 hours (or overnight) for best results.

First Rinse (After Dyeing)

  • Rinse gently in cool water with a mild soap until water runs mostly clear

  • Avoid hot water and scrubbing at this stage

  • Hang or lay flat to dry, out of direct sunlight

Ongoing Care

  • Hand wash in cold water with a mild, pH-neutral detergent

  • Wash separately for the first few washes

  • Avoid bleach, harsh detergents, and stain removers

What’s in your Dye Potions

Our dye potions are made from plants, flowers, roots—and a sprinkle of magic. Many of these materials are locally sourced, either grown in my own garden or gathered from nearby farms.

Here’s a peek at what gave your piece its glow:

Yellows & Golds
Turmeric — a golden root with bold, radiant energy
Marigold— a easy to dry flower known for its sunny yellows

Blues & Teals
Indigo — a plant dye made from leaves, known for its deep, lasting blues
Spirulina — a blue-green algae that creates soft teal and minty hues

Reds, Pinks & Purples
Hibiscus — dried petals that shift from pink to deep purple with PH
Cochineal — a historic natural dye, creating rich, vibrant reds
Beet Powder — earthy pinks that soften into dreamy blush tones
