We will have plenty of beautiful botanicals, leaves, flowers, and garden treasures for you to explore, so you absolutely do not need to bring anything with you.

But if there’s a special leaf from your garden, a flower you love, or something that feels a little bit you bring it along! Meaningful plants can make your piece even more personal.

And don’t stop at plants… jewelry, little objects, shapes, letters, and other treasures can create interesting silhouettes and prints, too. I’ll have lots of letters to play with.

Think of this as a garden-inspired experiment, not a perfectly planned recipe!!

What to Bring

Your Garment

Natural fibers work best cotton, linen, hemp, silk, rayon, lyocell, and other plant- or cellulose-based fabrics.

Light-colored garments are best:
White, cream, beige, tan, or other pale colors will show the solar dye beautifully.

A VERY IMPORTANT DENIM NOTE

Light-colored denim works beautifully!

Please bring white, cream, or light-blue denim only.

Please do not bring medium- or dark-wash denim. The solar dye is difficult to see against darker denim, so you’ll get much more beautiful and visible results on a lighter wash.

And of course, natural fibers are a must synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and acrylic will not take the dye.

*****Part synthetic (poly) part natural -just note it will come out much lighter and only dye the natural fibers.

Bring Your Garden Or Borrow Ours

Fresh or dried botanicals are welcome.

If you have something growing in your yard, garden, neighborhood, or windowsill that makes you curious, bring it! You don’t need a huge collection.

Some fun things to look for:

• Interesting leaves and unusual shapes

• Maple and oak leaves

• Ferns and deeply divided leaves

• Ivy, mugwort, herbs, and garden clippings

• Anything strange,or wonderfully weird welcome!

There are no “right” botanicals. Part of the fun is discovering what happens.

We will also have a whole garden’s worth of treasures to choose from, so bringing your own botanicals is completely optional.
