Natural Dyed Play Dough

I’ve tried so many play dough recipes and this by far is my absolute favorite!!

Not only is it safe to taste and eat, it does not require any cooking. It also lasts for two weeks, easy to revive, and can easily be made Gluten Free (GF mom here). It’s the softest, cloud-like dough texture that my kid loves and I use when teaching art classes.

Natural Dyed Play Dough Recipe

  • 1 cup of Icing (can be homemade or store bought)

  • 3 cups of powdered sugar

Instructions:

Mix by hand or using a stand mixer on low. Mix until crumbly chunks form, then get in and mix with hands.

If it’s too sticky- add more powdered sugar, too dry add a little more icing.

Divide into three and mix in colors.

*** adding a liquid color to the dough makes it a little stickier- add more powdered sugar to make smooth again.

To revive or to add an extra smooth cloud like texture add ½ teaspoon of more icing and mix well, I do this after I initially mix it or to revive after its been sitting for a while.

Store in airtight container or bag for two weeks, refrigerate if using your own homemade icing

Natural Color Adds:

I like to use natural color sources that I have right in my kitchen….aka veggies, fruits, teas, and spices to add color.
